Ambloplites rupestris Rock Bass

Rock Bass are the underwater camouflage wearers.  Lurking under rocks or logs rock bass sit in wait of their next meal.  CFI stumbled onto some odd eggs deposited in the substrate under a rock while out collecting Citico Darter nests in 2007.  So, of course we brought the eggs back to CFI to see what they were!  Low and behold we reared 14 little Rock Bass.

These guys were happy to end up at Ijams nature center on display!
