Status: IUCN: Least Concern

Threats: Agricultural practices, climate change, development, and sedimentation (What do these terms mean?)

Native Range: Atlantic Coastal Plain from the Great Dismal Swamp, s. VA, to Altamaha River drainage, GA

Spawning Habitat Preferences: Late spring to summer spawners in small streams and headwaters with low flow, and in swamps and lakes near vegetation; eggs are laid in vegetation

CFI Status: Propagated at CFI from 1998-1999 to learn about the life history of the species as an in-house interest project (What do these terms mean?)

These were brought back from Lake Waccamaw, where J.R. did much of his thesis work, and propagated for fun!
