Status: IUCN: Least Concern

Threats: No known threats

Native Range: St. Lawrence River-Great Lakes, Hudson Bay (Red River), and Mississippi River basins, from QC to SK, and south to n. GA, n. AL, and MO (native in MO only to Meramec River)

Spawning Habitat Preferences: Late spring to summer spawners in medium-large streams with low flow; they will dig a nest and nest in the depression under a rock or log

CFI Status: Propagated at CFI in 2007 as an in-house interest project after accidentally collecting a clutch of their eggs. (What do these terms mean?)

Once we raised these fish to a juvenile stage, we sent them over to Ijams Nature Center in south Knoxville to be put on display!
