Native Range: Cumberland and Tennessee River drainages in VA, KY, TN, NC, GA, AL, and MS

Spawning Habitat Preferences: Spring-summer spawner in small streams to large rivers with moderate to high flow; eggs are buried in gravel substrate.

CFI Status: Propagated at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in partnership with CFI from 2022-Present for propagation protocols and research*. (What do these terms mean?)

Fun fact: The research being done on this species is utilizing them as a surrogate for other, similar fish species that are likely more vulnerable to climate change than the Redline Darter.
