Native Range: Mississippi River basin from w KY and se. MO, south to s. MS, and west to e. OK and TX; Gulf Drainages from Pascagoula River, AL, to San Jacinto River, TX

Spawning Habitat Preferences: Early spring spawners in medium to large rivers in areas of localized, high flow; eggs are laid over sandy substrates
