Chucky Madtom | Noturus crypticus

Status: IUCN: Critically Endangered; USFWS: Endangered (2011)

Threats: Agriculture, invasive species, pollution, and sedimentation (What do these terms mean?)

Native Range: Dunn Creek and Little Chucky Creek (French Broad system), TN

Spawning Habitat Preferences: Late spring to summer spawners in streams with low to moderate flow; they lay clutches of eggs under small to medium-sized flat rocks

CFI Status: Attempted propagation at CFI from 2004-2008 for propagation protocols, restoration and an assurance colony; contracted for monitoring from 1995-1996 and 2002-2008. (What do these terms mean?)

In Partnership With: Tennessee Valley Authority; Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency; USFWS (Cookeville, TN)

Unfortunately, we were never able to propagate this species as we were only able to collect two adult breeders, and the female died before any spawning could occur.
