Speckled Darter | Etheostoma stigmaeum

Status: IUCN: Least Concern

Threats: Agriculture and sedimentation (What do these terms mean?)

Native Range: Mississippi River Basin from w. VA to se. KS and south to LA; Gulf Slope drainages from Mobile Bay and Pensacola Bay, GA, AL, and FL to Sabine River, LA; Clinch and Powell Rivers in VA and TN, but replaced in rest of middle and upper Tennessee River drainage by the Blueside Darter.

Spawning Habitat Preferences: Spring spawners in medium-sized streams to large rivers with moderate flow; spawn over sandy and fine gravel substrates

CFI Status: Propagated at CFI in 2003 for otolith research. (What do these terms mean?)
